Simpkins & Costelli, Inc is a Consulting Engineering firm offering professional engineering services in the fields of civil and structural engineering including project management and construction administration services for waterfront facilities including new pile-supported concrete wharf construction, tied-back steel bulkhead, warehousing and structural repairs for existing wharves; design of foundation and superstructure for commercial, industrial and institutional buildings; municipal and industrial wastewater projects; and civil site work including drainage, utilities, pavement and stormwater control for a wide range of clients along the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Consulting services are also offered to Architects and other Engineers. Simpkins & Costelli, Inc. has many years of experience in the study and design of public and private water, sewer and storm drainage projects. Additionally, Simpkins & Costelli, Inc. has provided structural engineering services for several new and existing wastewater treatment facilities.
Simpkins & Costelli, Inc. has furnished structural engineering design and construction phase services on several wastewater treatment facilities in Harrison and Hancock Counties. Segment 2 and 3 renovation of the Gulfport Wastewater Treatment Facility in 1985 were done by Simpkins & Costelli, Inc. In 1987, the West Biloxi Wastewater Treatment Facility was expanded and modified which posed a challenge for structural engineering solutions to the project. In 1994, the City of Gulfport added a 5.5 MGD new plant in the Bayou Bernard Industrial Seaway Park. A belt press structure was added in 1998 at the Diamondhead Wastewater Treatment Facility. Miscellaneous structural engineering services have been furnished at other facilities such as Long Beach Industrial Park Wastewater Treatment Facility and the City of Poplarville Wastewater Treatment Facility.
Simpkins & Costelli, Inc. has designed many significant structures along the Gulf Coast including many at the State Port of Gulfport and local military installations.. The firm has designed several major warehouses for the Naval Construction Battalion Center. The most significant of those projects are the two very large Controlled Humidity Warehouses along 28th Street. This was a prototype project, and we were challenged to design, in addition to the building, a crane system capable of off-loading to either rail cars or trucks. This was accomplished with multiple rail-mounted transfer cranes. The firm has received letters of commendation from the US Navy for excellent performance.
